Personalized patchwork bib for the baby girl ♥

Recently I whipped up a patchwork bib for our family friend's newborn baby girl. I just love to make handmade baby gifts to welcome those little peeps to our world♥

To add personal touch to the gift, here I stitched the baby girl's name on to bib front with pink stitches.

Bib pattern is from my book, Zakka Handmades.

Cotton batting is sandwiched in between front and back panels. I used double gauze on the reverse side, so the bib turned out very soft and extra absorbent.

Our gift set of handmade bib and small monetary gift was well received by the new mom and dad❣  As I stitched the gift, I continuously wished for the happiness and good health of the baby♥

Fabric Stuffed Christmas Tree Tutorial ☆

Christmas is just around the corner and we still haven't set up our tree yet...

In fact when we moved from California to Japan this spring, we got rid of our tree because we knew that we have no space to set up a big tree in our tiny apartment in Tokyo. So we actually don't have a tree to set it up... (sobs)

So what to do? I decided to make a quick holiday tree using what we have in abundance in our house... Money? No! Unfortunately! Fabrics? Yes, of course! lol

So here's the tutorial if you decide to make a last minute mini Christmas tree for your family and friends. I know it's the craziest time of the year for everyone, so I promise I make it quick and simple!

What you will need:(材料)

Fabrics, poly fill, and 20" ribbon trim
Craft glue is optional.

How to make stuffed fabric Christmas tree (作り方)
(Finished size: approx 7.5" or 19 cm tall でき上がりは高さ約19 cm)

1. First download tree template here

2. Then cut out total of six pieces of tree patterns from your choice of fabrics - you may cut out trees from six different fabrics, or make it simple by using just one fabric. I used three different fabrics and cut out two tree patterns from each fabric (total of six tree patterns).

Note: Only five tree patterns are shown above, but you should have six tree patterns in total

3. With RST (right sides together), layer two prints together to make three sets of tree patterns.

4. Using 1/4" seam allowances, sew around the entire tree, leaving openings at the bottom. Make small cuts at "V" area as shown.

5. Turn the tree right side out and push out corners. I like to use chopstick for this step (because we also have lots of chopsticks in our house!) but you may use a crochet hook, knitting needle, or any pointed object. Repeat for all three trees.

6. Layer three trees on top of each other. Sew straight line at center, from top to bottom, through all layers of fabrics.

7. Begin stuffing tree with poly fill from openings at bottom. Be sure to stuff all points. After filling, close openings shut using small hand stitches.

I used poly fill from local 100 yen store (dollar store). I ended up using one entire bag of poly fill (80 g or 3 oz) for this project.

This is how it looks like after the poly fill is packed inside.

8. Make a bow using ribbon trim and attach it to the top of the tree using hand stitches.

9. Optional step: Dab a small amount of craft glue to both ends of trims to avoid frills. Let dry.

Your stuffed fabric Christmas tree is now complete! You may check out my Fabric Rag Wreath tutorial (blogpost) if you're interested in making the wreath  shown in below pic.

Now that the tree is done (sort of), I better start working on new year cards (we send each other new year cards in Japan instead of holiday cards)! Wishing you and your family the happiest time of the year from chilly and windy Tokyo☆彡

Happy Thanksgiving 2015 and My New Potholder☆

Happy Thanksgiving to my dear friends and family from our kitchen to yours!

Well actually we don't have Thanksgiving here in Japan, but I still wanted to express my gratitude to my family, friends, and to those of you who follow and support my random thoughts and creations over here on my blog, FB, IG, and Flickr♥ Thank you my friends for your support and encouragement!! It means so much to me!

Image from Country Living website

What I miss the most about the Thanksgiving in the U.S. is... the food! I especially miss those yummy pumpkin pies from the States♥♥♥

Thinking of Thanksgiving dinner... I stitched up another potholder with "kitchen" print in the middle.

In fact this potholder may end up as one of holiday gifts to my family and friends... I'll see.

Pre-quilted polka dots fabric used for the back side.

May the wonderful Thanksgiving day bring lots of love and happiness to you and your family!

❤︎Flower crochet potholder ❤︎

Every once in a while I have a strong urge to put all chores aside, pick up my hook and start crocheting... Ideally I prefer quick projects that can be finished in a couple of hours.

So one night I picked up a crochet hook and a few skein of yarns from my yarn stash (cheap acrylic yarns from local Yuzawaya) and madly began crocheting...

... and finished a flower potholder♥

For pattern, I lightly followed this Japanese craft book.

Back side of potholder (裏側)

Crocheting (or knitting) is a proven stress reliever and I totally agree. The best part is the sense of accomplishment I get from finishing one tiny project like this one. It's especially therapeutic when you're raising teenagers in your house. lol

Now I use this potholder to drink green tea (I drink at least three to four cups of green tea throughout the day).

...Of course with my fave Moomin mug cup!

What have you been making lately?

My new patterns using Beautiful Kokka fabrics! ☆

Hello everyone! Our new life in Japan continues to be crazy but I still managed to make four new patterns, this time using beautiful fabrics from Kokka.

These patterns were introduced at recent Quilt Market in Houston. They are not in my online shop yet, but two tote patterns will be coming out soon!

Scrappy stars made with Kokka's latest Irome collection (coming out soon)

Well that's it for today but I will promise to come back soon with more details... Happy stitching!

House pencil pouch ♪

For quite some time, I had this idea of making a house pouch from my original *Children's Pencil Bag* pattern... and I finally had a chance to put it together. As you can see, birds are chirping at front windows, making lots of noises!

You can find my original pouch pattern from my book.

Or you can find it in my etsy shop...

Back side has one "window" with another chirping bird... they like to sing along and make more noises!

Lining is navy x white gingham check.

It's always fun to play around with original patterns and try something new!

And here are other stuff that I stitched up recently (posted previously on my IG and FB)

Patchwork pouches I made for my girlfriends. These quick gifts were complete with fine soap and hand cream inside.

Then I upcycled my daughter's old shirt to make it into hot pads and coasters... It was such a fun and cheap project (lol).

Dresden circle that I made from scrap fabrics. I  love working with happy colors; they really make me smile :)
